Nanjala Nyabola
Try to remember Lonely World? Rough Guides? The shiny shots? The breezy descriptions of faraway destinations?
Long just before the pandemic lockdown, individuals typical guidebooks ended up go-to reading for quite a few persons going on a significant excursion. Nanjala Nyabola is one of them. She’s a writer and a consummate traveler from Kenya who collects these guides, but found out early on that the information that lay amongst their addresses was not composed with vacationers like her in intellect.
Touring Africa by means of the lens of these guidebooks pretty much discouraged her from touring entirely.
Now, 70+ countries later on, Nanjala sets down her backpack and speaks with Gregory Warner about her new e-book, Travelling When Black: Essays Influenced by a Lifestyle on the Move. She breaks down what touring has taught her about her own id, and the unforeseen pleasure of getting new locations on your own terms.
